THE BUSINESS

There has been a bike shop in downtown Zeeland since the 1920s. Over that century of sales, the shop has been under the ownership of several different individuals, all of whom put quality customer service and a home-town feel at the top of their priority list. Current proprietor Aaron Schutter has owned the business since 2019 and is proud to continue the tradition.

We carry Jamis, Scott, and Norco bicycles as well as a full range of bicycle accessories and apparel. MSBC services all makes and models of bicycles, and we’ve even been known to do repair work on other human-powered transportation such as wheelchairs, pedal cars, and the occasional elliptical bike.

We’re so much more than just the old Schwinn shop! Bicycle technology has advanced by leaps and bounds over the last twenty years or so, and we have fully embraced it. From fat bikes to e-bikes to carbon fiber race bikes with electronic shifting, our staff has extensive experience building, servicing, and riding bikes in a wide array of disciplines. Multi day, self supported bike packing trips? You bet. Mountain biking championships? We’ve won a couple, actually. Bicycle frame design and fabrication? We’ve done that, too. It’s more than just a business; it’s what we love doing!

Don’t care about racing fancy bikes? Don’t worry; we will always offer a wide selection of fun, affordable bikes for the whole family, too!

THE PEOPLE

The MSBC crew is a highly-experienced mix of ages and riders, from our youngest teen MTBer to a fairly old guy who does a lot of road riding, and everything in between. What they all have in common is a heart for customer service and a desire to get it right. Our mechanics have a combined 40 years of wrenching experience, including custom frame building.

THE BUILDING

From the 1920s to the 1940s there was actually a 3-lane bowling alley upstairs! This is one of the many historical highlights of 201 E. Main Ave. It’s been a shoe store, a drug store, a clock factory, and even housed a purveyor of “all kinds of fancy and sweet baked goods”! In or around 1962, then-owner Gary Zuverink moved the business from down the street into our current location on the corner of Main and Church streets and named it Zeeland Schwinn Cyclery. Some 50 years later the name Main Street Bicycle Co. was born.
